The abstract of PekingUniversity Doctoral thesis
In 1996, the doctoral thesis China’s Pioneer Culture during the late twenties century---the Comparison study between novel, poem, arts, and architecture (three hundred thousand words) passed the open reply and achieved the arts doctor degree of PekingUniversity. The thesis adopted the methods of cross subject comparison, having made a large number of investigations about arts, poem, novel and architecture since the reform and open policy during the late twenties century. And it had applied linguistics, type comparative study, theory analysis, psychological analysis, source media, background economic society analysis and so on. It also inspected how the western classical modern theory and works entered into China by misunderstood, mistranslated and the process of variation. According to this framework of comparison it proofed that the so called ‘modernism’ in China’s late twenties essentially is fake modernism. This is the Chinese converted, mistranslated, misread ‘modernism’. It is a natural’s error, a unicorn of China’s unique modernism. China’s modernism is accompanied by the context of Orientalism and post colonist culture. With the development of the society, then I added quite many Orientalism and post colonist as well as the novels, poems, arts, and the material of the architecture called fake modernism(about five hundred thousand words) since1990s, as a result of ‘some problems’ about the final judgment it did not published at last. I was an artist and theorist during the 1980s and 1990s, besides this thesis is what I wrote about the spirit history of Chinese intellectuals of our generation and my grandpa of the 1920s and 1930s, and my father’s generation of the 1940s, 1950s and 1960s. This paper has some constructed meaning in the aspect of the search methods. It is the rare comparison study with cross subjects and multidiscipline both in PekingUniversity and inland. Besides, it criticized and summarized the modernism of China during 1980s and 1990s comprehensively and systematically.
